World's first all-electronic open-access toll highway helps connect fans to the inaugural event in Canada’s high-tech capital
MARKHAM, Ontario (July 29, 2026) – The Ontario Honda Dealers Indy at Markham is proud to welcome 407 ETR as the “Official Highway Sponsor” of the inaugural race weekend in Markham set for August 14-16. The world’s first all-electronic open access toll highway will allow fans from around the Greater Toronto Area, across the Province of Ontario and beyond to drive right up to the festival site from this major expressway.
"Communities across the GTA are thriving, and the arrival of the Ontario Honda Dealers Indy in Markham is an exciting example of that success," said Jose Espinosa, President and CEO of 407 ETR. "One-in-three Markham residents have relied on Highway 407 ETR to get to their destinations, and the Highway enables an additional 1.2 million people from across the region to reach Downtown Markham within an hour compared to alternate routes. For major events that draw visitors from across Canada and around the world, travellers arriving through Pearson Airport can save more than an hour getting to Downtown Markham during evening rush hour. When communities are connected, they're better positioned to attract visitors, support local businesses and host the kinds of world-class events that strengthen their economies and enrich community life."
As part of the partnership, 407 ETR will anchor a major gathering point on the festival site with naming rights to the event's premier fan hub: 407 ETR Thunder Alley. Much like Highway 407 ETR, which seamlessly connects communities across the GTA, Thunder Alley connects fans to the heart of the weekend. The 407 ETR Thunder Alley will feature interactive experiences, exhibits, merchandise, diverse dining options, and plenty of activities for families and children of all ages to keep everyone fueled and energized for a full day at the track.
“The connection between Ontario’s fastest weekend and its fastest highway is a perfect match,” said Jeff Atkinson, president of the Ontario Honda Dealers Indy at Markham. “Partnering with 407 ETR ensures our fans from across the GTA, the Province and surrounding communities have a quick, reliable route directly to the track, letting them spend less time in traffic and more time enjoying the incredible experience that the Ontario Honda Dealers Indy at Markham is going to offer.”
Commuting to the track is seamless. Highway 407 ETR offers direct regional connections—linking Markham to the west via Highways 400, 427, and 401, and to the east via Highways 404 and 412. Drivers can exit directly at Warden Avenue, leading straight to the festival site.
Fans are encouraged to use a 407 ETR transponder to save on account fees, and create a My Account on 407etr.com or its mobile app for easy account management and to access exclusive benefits. Drivers from outside Ontario or the U.S. can register their vehicles with NextPass to more easily manage their travel and save on fees.
The Ontario Honda Dealers Indy at Markham makes its debut in the city’s downtown core this August under a multi-year agreement. The temporary 12-turn, 3.52-kilometre (2.19-mile) street circuit will be constructed in the eastern precinct, bounded by Kennedy Road, Enterprise Boulevard, and the Unionville GO tracks.
